How You’ll Make an Impact

As the Senior Manager, PR & Communications (Head of) reporting to the CMO you will work closely with our CEO/Co-founder to craft a powerful company narrative and drive a breakthrough PR approach, in service of supercharging our brand awareness.

You will do this by leveraging data insights within Homebase’s powerful platform of millions of users and being informed by qualitative customer insight, as you build a clear-eyed conviction on how we can stake our claim as market authority and leading tech startup in our march to become a generational company.

You will partner closely with Product, Brand/Creative, Product Marketing, Analytics, the executive team, and beyond. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant responsibility, operating against a hybrid internal/external model of hands-on pitching as well as some agency support as needed.

You are quick on your feet, blindingly ambitious about taking PR & communications to the next level, a self-starter, and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines.

PR & communications is a significant strategic company lever, and not seen as simply a marketing distribution channel. It will get the appropriate focus and support from senior executives, to enable truly great work to drive the impact that matches our ambitions.

What You’ll Do

  • Build brand awareness by:
    • Developing and executing an earned media strategy
    • Leverage your existing rolodex of U.S. media contacts in B2B, Business/Tech, and Consumer to build and develop relationships, including hands-on pitching
    • Expanding reach with a multi-channel, integrated content approach (ex. Social media, events, thought leadership, keynote addresses, media partnerships, etc.)
    • Support the execution of our broader marketing campaigns to extend their reach.
  • Tell our story by:
    • Building a communications narrative for our company and products that is compelling to media and our end users
    • Building the brand and reach of select executives, including co-founders
    • Differentiated data stories, powered by qualitative customer insights and the power of our platform analytics
  • And other critical communications and PR-related responsibilities, as required.
  • Must have US PR experience

You are a bar raiser, which means by the end of year 1, you will have:

  • Pushed our quality of media coverage through a significant step up to the next level, including multiple broadcast hits
  • Developed and raised the executive profile of select senior leaders (ex. Co-founders)
  • Inspired our entire organization with the true potential of PR & Communications
  • Supercharged our company-integrated campaigns by expanding reach
  • Proactively brought in and executed multiple new game-changing ideas
  • Pushed us to think differently, bringing a strong POV and steady hand to how we can win
  • …have a blast while building!

You’ll be successful here if you bring

  • Minimum 8 years experience in startup PR & communications, ideally with in-house exposure to SaaS, consumer, and financial services
  • World-class written and verbal communication skills
  • Track record of crafting powerful messaging and distilling complex product details into simple and clear insights that are highly pitchable
  • A strong point of view, with the ability to drive media strategy (with or without agency support)
  • A rolodex of media relationships in Business, Technology, B2B (trades), Consumer
  • Deep agency management experience with evidence of unlocking greatness from them
  • Willingness to travel to major media markets and Homebase hubs (Toronto, SF, Houston, Denver)
  • Deep comfort with providing strategic advice and media coaching to senior executives
  • A default to thinking differently and pushing past the traditional – messaging, channels, etc
  • A strong bias toward impact – scorecarding results, analytical mindset, and data comfort
